ATE Online - Casino

The UK Poker Clubs Association (UKPCA) declared that the DCMS' treatment of poker clubs was totally irrational and announced that it was applying for a judicial review over the matter. Barry Martin, a spokesperson for UKPCA, said that the government was not listening to the industry, despite attempts to communicate in an 'open and transparent manner'.

"Venues not set up for poker, without trained staff, or proper facilities, where the main activity may often be gambling, will be able to play for unlimited stakes and prizes, but poker clubs will not – it is ridiculous," he said.

The association is arguing that the new laws will push poker players into 'gambling-focused casinos' and 'potentially hazardous environments' for the playing of a competitive game that poker is.

UKPCA also predicts that the law will also lead to a growth in unregulated 'underground' poker playing.

Bingo Winner Wins Compensation

Quoted from http://www.ateonline.co.uk/60/59/63/articles/12008.php:

ATE Online - News

National bingo winner Karen Bryson has won £27,880 in compensation from her ex-partner after he broke a promise to give her a share of his house. Bryson claimed that Alex Bunce had offered her the property deal after she scooped a £103,247 national jackpot at her local bingo hall.

The pair then spent the jackpot in under 12 months, on 'exotic holidays, a sports car and paying off credit card debts'. The couple had been seeing each other for six months before the win.

Bryson, told the court they had met with a solicitor to change the title deeds to include her name.

She said: "It all sounded so simple - I give him half the money and I get half the house. But the transfer of the title deeds never happened. There were always excuses as to why it hadn't gone through.

"Once all of the money had been spent, Mr Bunce moved out and he forced me to pay rent."
