Betcorp has stopped taking online bets from U.S. customers via telephone and is reviewing its U.S. focused business. Experts are now wondering what the online gambling group new business strategy will be as the United States accounts for 85 per cent of its revenue.
Colin Walker, Betcorp's CEO, said "Our Antiguan registered business takes the bets, and in the past we were assured by our advisors that we have operated on the right side of the law. Recent events have brought some doubt into the equation."
Shares in the group fell by over 40 per cent at the start of the BetonSports legal problems, prompting Betcorp to announce a rapid expansion into the European market. It did post a 146 per cent rise in profits for the first half of 2006, to $4.6 million with player gross player revenues also rising 75 per cent to $22 million.

Gaming companies moving in on more football sponsorship
The gambling and gaming community is continuing its drive for football related sponsorship with yet another series of deals. Betfred yesterday announced a three-year deal with perennial Premiership title favourites Manchester United to become the clubs 'official bookmaking and online gaming' partner, while Liverpool based Sportech, owner of the Littlewoods Football Pools, said that it had struck a six-figure marketing deal to become the official gaming partner of Everton FC for the upcoming season.
The Betfred deal will see betting kiosks at Old Trafford, as well as corporate areas, rebranded; a co-branded Betfred/Manchester United website developed to include poker, casinos and traditional betting; and Betfred teaming up with MUTV for gaming specials.
Betfred boss and lifelong Manchester United fan Fred Done called the deal a 'dream come true': "I’ve been a season ticket holder at United for 45 years and the opportunity to be an official partner was a deal I could not pass up. I’m a mad red and have the utmost respect for Sir Alex.
Financial terms of the Manchester United deal were not divulged,
Sportech's deal will include a matchday Spot the Ball competition, a dedicated weekly gaming section on evertonfc.com, sponsorship of Everton's Predictor Game and a series of communications to the club's databases.
Everton's chief executive Keith Wyness said: "It is a multi-faceted deal that will further strengthen Littlewoods Pools' relationship with football, as well as ensuring their ever increasing collection of gaming brands are seen by tens of thousands of Everton fans both home and abroad each week.
"The new partnership also gives Everton a further chance to strengthen its own portfolio of major sponsorships and this latest opportunity will see both businesses gain mutual benefit in both the short and long-term."
In the Spanish league, 888.com has agreed to become the official sponsors of Primera Liga club Sevilla for the next two seasons, after already agreeing partnerships with Premiership side Middlesbrough FC and French Ligue 1 club Toulouse for the coming season
